Comments on: This CN westbound freight is at Bowmanville on a May 1966 evening. One difference between CP and CN in these days was CP’s habit of under powering freights with one or two units, while on CN one was more likely to see sets of 3 or 4 GP-9s or in this case RS-18s with an RS-3. CN freights were usually cruising along at track speed and CP would be grinding it out at 30-40 mph. Perhaps the fact that CN had almost twice as many diesel units as CP had something to do with this.
