Comments on: This I consider one of my bleakest scenes. What looks refreshing in this image? Nothing. Grubby old buildings, dreary pavement, dirty snow, slate blah sky, a dismal old bridge and about the unimaginative a paint scheme there ever was out there. It is a pair of old Penn Central GP 9s, now stencilled “CR” seeing the road of the future, Conrail, had been up and running almost 2 years before this photo was taken. We’re at the corner of Zimmerman Av and looking down Park, toward the river; as CR 7433 and 7432 enter Canada, bringing a train over the old Steel Arch bridge. Not much has changed in all the years since this shot; the railroad is long gone but the bridge remains. Building on the left, an old bank, is still there but the other is but a vacant pile of rubble the last I checked. But that has in itself been awhile. This certainly is one dreary scene, not unlike right now as I look out the den window while typing this out and putting it to RP. :o)

Thanks, Paul. In response, I submitted another image of the area; only much broader. But, alas, the same lousy weather. Hopefully it will clear the "censors" shortly. :o)

Almost looks like it could have been used for a set for a spy movie. John Le Carre or Len Deighton. Hauntingly Bleak.

Sorry about that. I was looking at the grey Grimsby skies. It did cross my mind that you could be a landlord down that way though.

Conrail never came into St. Catharines to the best of my knowledge. It was confined to what we know now as x-TH&B/CASO lines mostly.
