Comments on: This is an image of the old West Lorne CSX station. It had recently closed and remained in situ until the 1990s. Not sure if it as demolished or moved.
The station was constructed in 1893 for the Lake Ere & Detroit River Railway which eventually evolved into the Pere Marquette Railway before being swallowed by the CSX family.
It is interesting to note that all these little towns in SW Ontario along the line were important. West Lorne is an example of a community that was almost completely reliant on the railway for its commerce. Besides handling passengers and mixed freight, there was also yard tracks, a water tower and stockyards and a freight shed at this location. One could certainly see the importance of the railway since the automobile not even been developed when this station opened for business. (looks like an outhouse on the far left!!)
The station had name signs on each end but I elected to post this broadside view because the old water tower in behind identifies the location.

Great photo Arnold. By the time I made even my first trip to West Lorne (Dec. 2003), both stations (CASO too) were long gone. All that was left was a CN namesugn for West Lorne along the last remaining stretch of CASO. That too....was removed in 2012.

Sad.

Arnold Street? Really? I wonder if there is a Railroad Street intersecting it. I'd have to go there for a photo. ;o)
