Comments on: This is just an entry for the station junkies……..and PEI fans. The old Fredericton station began life in 1875 as a flag stop. But as the village grew; there was a need for a larger station with a good waiting room and large freight area. So, in 1904 a new station was built to serve the needs of the community. The new building was referred to as a ‘Keeper’ station; as it required someone there to keep an eye on it. As in “agent”. When I photographed this structure in 2001, it had been relocated a couple of hundred feet or so from its original location by the Confederation Trail which in turn was constructed on the old CN right of way. The station was sold in the early 1990s to a local and moved unto their farm property and the plans were to fix it up. But it never happened. By 2015 the old wooden structure was in derelict condition and part of the roof had caved in. I am under the opinion the building was razed. I could not find it in 2017. Just another piece of history lost. Shame.

Yeah, some of these buildings (not this one!!) are so gorgeous inside it is an absolute crime they fall victim to the wreckers’ ball. And it seems the only crime they have committed is being too close to the right of way…….

Glad you had a chance to photograph this structure Arnold. Shows it in its last ‘architectural’ state before likely being razed. These are the photos I love seeing posted by you and many other station ‘junkies’ I’ve met in my life. The insulbrick, paint colours….all lead to those certain time periods just before CN (or CP) no longer required these buildings.

As you’ve stated before on some of my photos- “this would’ve made a great house!”
