Comments on: This is why I love nose-out DPU’s.

Ontario is having a pretty much faux-winter, but -18 felt pretty cold at 7am. 8941 pulled through town, and stopped at Boyne. It can’t be that long, I thought…..signals lined for a northbound so……2 and half hours later the second monster 1+1+1 takes the crossovers to clear the main….for a crew that I suspect will struggle to avoid an early crew change. I’ll never understand the logic in running over siding length in both directions.

My only regret is not offering the crew a coffee run.

Have spent a lot of time hanging out here over the years and have definitely seen a couple of close calls at that driveway. I'm really surprised they still have no protection for it at all. Probably just because nobody wants to pay for it.

In the 80's, when I worked for CN, the idea was to get the trains over the road, and to really get the hot ones over the road. RTC's calling up 221 asking why it took them so long to get to Richmond Hill. Now, we have planned parking, throttle restrictions, and I've seen and heard about enough crew changes at Jane St; or earlier, because they couldn't make it in time( No I don't know if this was a BIT or Montreal train; I suspect Milton may help a bit...for a while). I understand there is a plan. I'm just having a hard time adapting to what I consider really lousy railroading. The shareholders love it. For the crews to have any form of a life...or decent rest, I don't see it.

My understanding is Transport Canada made it a mandatory stop for southbound because it's a blind curve to an unprotected crossing.

There is an oversiding meet plan. They know the trains probably sitting for a couple of hours. The thing is they could send the Southbound to Brechin East then the Northbounds would be waiting blocking crossings. Another question to ask is "Can BIT take this train right away"? No use rushing it if they have other trains to build. Crew is good for 12 hours, probably only been on for 4 out of Capreol.

All southbounds have to stop here now?
I assume it's a 'stop and proceed' type scenario (?)
What's the reason?

Excellent shot, IIRC the 2932 is the tail end of a CN train going North onto the DRZ. Thus it would be on the CP Parry Sound sub?
