Comments on: This trackmobile and what appears to be some components from their bridge replacement unit were hiding behind Western Mechanical’s plant. This spur was built in 2005 to serve a composite lumber plant that only lasted a couple of years. I didn’t think the spur was in use.

This spur into this area has had its ups and downs. I moved to Barrie in 1988. At that point I don't think there was any traffic on this spur. The General Tire plant at the end of the spur closed around 1990. Around 1995 the rails were severed south of Brock Street for some watermain work. CN did not reinstall the rails. Around 1990 the rails were reinstalled by BCRY and one of the former General Tire spurs was reconfigured for Barrie Metals. Some Gondola loads of steel were brought in. I only saw this occur once. In 2005 the spur was installed behind Western Mechanical to serve the composite lumber plant. This is the only new customer BCRY has landed that I am aware of and they closed within a couple of years. Old maps show a spur in this location to serve Hill Refrigeration. They are long gone. There is a video on the Western Mechanical website showing their bridge replacement unit at work.

Great shot! Didn't know this spur was still in use - it is apparently, but by the looks of it, not very often. Lets hope another company opens up in that area and uses the BCRY....

Western's the last customer on this spur, also, I saw this piece of equipment sitting in Allandale yard a few years back, at the time I had no idea what it was, but I do now! Nice find!
