Comments on: This was an early on slide for me, and still one of my favourites. This was my first visit to Kitchener station, and at the time I knew all the 251 powered Alco/MLW’s were on borrowed time. All the six axle vets were already gone but the slightly newer Bombardier built HR616 would last a few years longer than the other six axle non cowl versions. High reliability was certainly not something these units lived up to and spent almost as much time out of service, as they did in service. While the motive power this day definitely caught my eye, so did the kids taking in the action that definitely helped make the photo. Over the years I have spent a lot of time at the old station, day and night. Fond memories for sure. Here train 432 prepares to stop and work the yard, with a crew member dead heading in the trailing M420, and a long cut of salt hoppers out of Goderich trailing the power and flat cars.

Small wonder this is a favourite of yours. Kitchener station was a nice place to hang out at one time, but I didn't get to stop by very often. You sure did well catching one of the BBD units on the lead. Pity they didn't last.
