Comments on: This was probably the first and only time I’ve seen something like this occur in Kitchener. I had to look back in my notes to remember exactly why a CN caboose was coupled to an LRC coach and a VIA Rail F40PH-2 in front of the station, as it happened more than 25 years ago in February 1994. So from what I could piece together from the notes, that morning’s eastbound VIA train with 6422, had struck a vehicle around Breslau, which is just east of Kitchener. The unit and the first LRC car had received some damage in the collision and they were moved under their own power back to Kitchener and were left on the same track with Kitchener assigned caboose 79401. I believe the LRC coach and 6422 would receive required repairs here prior to being lifted and taken back to Toronto. As well that same afternoon, CN had dispatched GP9RM 4135 to the scene where it would lift the three remaining cars from the passenger train and brought them back to Kitchener to layover. Also of note, CN train 422 had to be held in the siding at Kitchener until the Guelph Subdivision could be re-opened. I have written that it’s consist that day was 2118, 2308, 4102, 4136, 4126 and 4110 with 96 cars.
