I worked for an architect on a building on Wellington Street that was required to have a sloping roof so that the copper roof of the Royal York would be visible from King Street. I guess that planning requirement doesn’t apply any more.

Nice. Simpler times.
TTR Scott Street tower at extreme left.
On the left is CN’s double track ‘high line’ that bypassed the Depot’s ladder trackage and swung south of the CPR John Street roundhouse and likewise south of the CN Spadina roundhouse, joining the Oakville Sub. west of Bathurst Street. To access the high line CN Dispatch would ‘ding’ the TTR Scott Street Levermen.

Amazing scene, John. And I know “your spot”. Used it a few times in the mid-70s; but never had a wide open scene like this.
The Channel 9 billboard must have been up for ages.

Funny to see this, went through downtown Friday Jan. 30, asked my wife one question, Can you even see the Royal York anymore?? She got a thin glimpse between the towering glass and concrete … no obstructions in this incredible period view…
