Just like a quarterback taking the snap and staying in "the pocket" to make a throw to one of their receivers, a yard crew will line themselves westward out of the New Yard onto the North Main (like the QB taking the snap) before shoving eastward through the rest of the crossovers, across the mainlines to service the elevators (the throw to the receiver).
