Comments on: To my knowledge nobody has posted any photos from the Burlington “Mainway” wreck of early January 1977. So then, here’s one. This negative was in rough shape, but still fared better than the subjects.
This was a Toronto to Fort Erie train. Thirty-seven cars of an 87 car train went on the ground January 19th when a car carrying sulphur suffered wheel seizure. Lumber, sulphur, vehicles and scrap were scattered all over the place in this derailment that happened between Walker’s Line and Guelph Line. Damage estimated at more than $2 million.
For those who would like to know, the engineer was John Misener of Niagara Falls, head brakeman was Ray Beroud of Stevensville. Terry Illingworth of Fort Erie and another (unidentified) were in the caboose.
Two of the hooks on the job I made note of were CN 50014 and 50019. Work train led by CN 4585.

And just one day later, after this photo was snapped.....I was BORN!

Guess there truly are events that are recorded. However, I say this knowing that this event could've been much, much worse. And it's not the first wreck to happen along this stretch of track either.

As for that other noted event the day after.....well, you be the judge of that! ????
