If you look closely, you can see a crew member in the cab of the 4931 looking for the signal/watching the back-up move into Hamilton and the last car starting through the crossover to the westward track (remember, it was “right hand running” in those days prior to bi-directional CTC). Prior to April 29, 1962, trains to and from southwestern Ontario made station stops in Hamilton–backing to Bayview before continuing west and backing into Hamilton before continuing east. Trains to and from London (Nos. 80/83) Windsor (Nos. 9/18), and Chicago (Nos. 5/6 and 14/15) which did this had a three hour schedule between London and Toronto, compared to 2:10 or 2:15 for those which by-passed Hamilton (Nos. 75/82 to/from Sarnia). At the end of April 1962, the back-up move was eliminated for most trains.
