Its cheaper to truck the pulp to Thunder Bay, (average of 160 bales a truck vs 360 a rail car) and load onto CN vs a direct CP shipment.

From what I can tell, lately they have been using this method to ship west/south to MI/WI/TN... Before the cars would get placed on the "CN Haulage" for Franz (only to get delayed another week) and go to various eastern spots like Mehoopany, PA; Ottawa, ON; Chester, PA; Crabtree, PQ etc...

Not sure if the next shipment down this line will be scrap steel from the plant or what. Nice touch Dave.

For the record...

Thunder Bay Packaging was owned by Buchanan Forest Products as a truck to rail/boat transfer for pulp from Terrace Bay. Pulp is now shipped 2.5 hours down the highway to a transfer facility in CN's Neebing Yard.
