Comments on: TTC PCC 4601 (an A10-class car originally built in 1940 for Cincinnati) heads eastbound through the High Park area on Bloor Street at Oakmount Road, passing a PCC heading the opposite direction while heading downgrade on the final stretch of the truncated Bloor route to Keele Subway Station. The new Bloor-Danforth subway line had been open for just a few months, and streetcars on Bloor had been cut back to two short segments at the west and east ends of the line known as the “Bloor Shuttle” and “Danforth Shuttle”. New subway extensions opened at both ends of the line two years later in May 1968, rendered both remaining streetcar portions along Bloor redundant. Present-day, the whole block of houses on this corner of Bloor and north into Oakmount and Pacific were bought up by developers and demolished 2011-2012 for high-rise condominiums. 4601 was likely one of the many older cars retired after the 1968 BD subway extensions rendered many of the older and secondhand PCC cars surplus (it wasn’t one of the cars sold to Egypt however, so was likely scrapped or sold for scrap by the TTC).
