Comments on: Two children look on as VIA 70 arrives in Burlington West sporting an unusual consist: FP9A 6512, 4 LRC cars and an LRC locomotive providing HEP power on the rear. Seeing an F-unit hauling LRC equipment was quite rare. My guess is the LRC prime mover had a failure somewhere along the line, and the 6512 was dispatched to rescue the train. Long-gone MLW power can also be spotted on the CN freight passing by westbound off the Halton Sub.

Awesome, thanks Stephen! I made a point of visiting the Drury Lane bridge with my boys each time I was in back up in Burlington- my folks lived in the north end of town and it was only a mere 10 minutes away. They’ve now moved to Niagara, and me living in North Carolina means I’ll probably not be climbing the bridge again or anytime soon.

One bit of silver lining for me- we have several ex-GO F59PHs here operating Amtrak’s NCDOT trains between Charlotte and Raleigh daily. They still have the original K5LAs too!

Thanks GO564 – I don’t recall going to Drury lane much as a kid, but I tend to go once/twice a year these days usually when we go shopping in Burlington and I can go there for an hour or so. Get your shots and make sure to go again soon, that bridge is marked for replacement, and possibly soon.

I like to go early afternoon so I have a shot at the westbound 554 from Oakville, we (my wife and kids) can get an hour of shopping in, I get 2-4 trains then head to my parents about 30 minutes away for dinner, the timing usually always works out in my favour.

Love this shot! Brings back memories for me working as a brakeman or conductor on the VIA trains all over southern Ontario and the Ottawa/ Montreal corridor.
Burlington West holds a special place for me as I remember many evenings making a station stop there on the way to Toronto and seeing the “foamers” in lawn chairs set up on the asphalt taking in all the action from the busy Oakville/ Halton main. Of course being the good railfan that I am, I often gave the flimsies “train orders” to one of the local fans.

Thanks Steven- that’s actually me standing in the photo with my sister, my dad was behind the camera. The old print is in my collection, and I cropped/cleaned it up. I have the same memories as you- having grown up in Burlington, we regularly visited this station as well as the overpass off of Drury Lane, east of the GO station. We probably ran into each other around then!

This tugs at my heartstrings for me – from 85-88 I was routinely brought here by my Grandfather (and my Father/Family) to pick up my Grandmother who routinely took the train to/from work into downtown Toronto and we all lived in Burlington at the time. Of course I always enjoyed my visits to the train station – you could get really close at this one..

So when I got into photographing trains I spent a lot of time here leading up to when the station was moved for the triple tracking project. I still visit but not as often. Great shot – and no that’s not me. I would have been there with my younger Brother. Thanks for sharing.
