Comments on: Two CN RSC-13s amble by a typical Up-West house as they near Mileage 77.7, St. Louis, Prince Edward Island on an evening in July 1974. At Tignish, Mileage, 84.6, the western end of the Kensington, Sub, the crew will tie up for the night and start their eastbound 68-mile trip back to Summerside the following morning. CN 1734 was built by MLW in 1957 and was the last of 35 RSC-13s. The units began to be retired in the fall of 1975. CN used their trucks in a Moncton-based program to create “RSC-18s” as replacements on Maritime branchlines. CN retired 1734 on Monday, December 15, 1975, and its trucks were mated to RS-18 3864, becoming RSC-18 1765 two days later. It was retired on Thursday, September 30, 1993. Cape Breton & Central Nova Scotia bought 1765 in 1995 and it served as a parts source for CBNS RS-18 3716.

Great photo Bill! I’ve been to PEI often but all post rail service. A beautiful island and I can only imagine what it would have been like to ride the rails there.
