Comments on: Two x-CP RS-18u locomotives of the Ottawa Central, 1815 and 1824, one with reflective stripe and one without, sit near the office in Ottawa’s Walkley Yd. This railroad had a rather short history. It began on Dec. 13, 1998 as a wholly owned subsidiary of the Quebec Rwy Corp., was taken over by CN on Nov. 3, 2008 and now is a subsidiary of CN. The old CP units, which retained their numbers when relettered to OCRR, have been dealt off and now just CN power can be found here. So, thats it. Ten years. Short life. Interesting too in this image is the tarp-covered VIA unit behind the 1824. This is the 6423, wrecked at Thamesville, ON Apr. 23rd of 1999. It was hauled to Ottawa for a going-over by government inspectors as to how and why it destructed as it did under severe impact. When I walked over for a closer image of the VIA, a yard crew came out of the office, got into the 1824 and proceeded to move the locomotive down the line between rolling stock so that further photos of the unit were not possible. Perhaps the engine had just been brought to the yard, or perhaps orders were to “hide it” from nosy railfans. I’ll never know for sure.

Why didn't they just come out and say: "Begone Mooney, Begone!". You probably just happened by when they were going to move it anyways.
Makes for an interesting tale of a day of your wanderings.
Was there anything else of much (railway) interest in the nation's capital?
