Comments on: Under stormy skies to the north, 562 makes its way south down the Humberstone Spur in Port Colborne. They lifted the empty dimensional flat from Southern Yard, after returning from a transfer run to Trillium over at Feeder. I was a little confused about the empty dimensional flat given that the Humberstone’s sole customer, Vale, only receives tanks. But you never know what is inside a plant like that, so I didn’t think too hard about it. I soon found out that the flat isn’t for Vale however; it is for JTL Integrated Machines which is just down the street. A 260,000 pound component of a metal shredder will be trucked down the street and loaded by two cranes onto the flat. In the end, it is destined for Minnesota. The remaining components will make their way there by truck.

Jamie, another incredible shot, just thought I would piggyback on NIAGARAMIKE11′s comment about the identical car at TRENERGY,…both JTL and TRENERGY have the same majority shareholder, and in the energy sector the combined capabilities of JTL and TRENERGY allows them to tackle large projects that few companies would have the expertise in North America..

Craig, I had this lighting all the way from Yager (where the Humberstone comes off the Stamford) right to when they got to Vale. Clouds came over me once they were leaving Vale but by that point there were no shots left anyways. Apparently it was raining pretty damn hard in Niagara Falls area while it was beautiful sunny skies in Port Colborne.

Nice shot jknott86! You are making me homesick..well more like locomotive sick. While most focus on the image, I am thinking of the feeling and the smell of being inside of these units. I know that it may be weird, but railroading, is also about the sights and sounds and yes the smell. Pictures like this bring me back. I miss it every day .Thank you.

Interesting as a near identical flat was dropped at Trenergy in St Catharines on the 17th. It was pulled yesterday with a massive package boiler on it, while a second empty one was left at the plant for next weeks shipment!
