Comments on: VIA #85 has just completed a stop at Kitchener and is now heading to Stratford, St Marys and London.
I finally got a sunny day in March of 1980.
The building in the background was the Boehmer Box Factory. From what I have just read, it looks like the factory relocated, and this building is being re-purposed. The buildings further back were once furniture factories.

There were lots of industries on the south side of the tracks as well. The track in the foreground went past Bluetop Brewing, Rumple Felt, Kitchener Button, and Hydro City Shoe. Not sure if they were all actually rail-served.

Behind that is the lead to the freight house, then the service track, then of course the main track with the RDCs. Behind the main is the north siding. I can't see if Deilcraft / Boehmer Box building still has a siding - might have been gone by this time.

Actually the building right behind the RDCs was also a furniture plant originally. It was the DEILCRAFT furniture division of Dominion Electrohome Industries Ltd (hence DEILcraft…). They originally made cabinets for radios and TVs (remember when radios were a piece of furniture?), but also made dinette sets and possibly other items.

I'm confused by all the foreground tracks though ! Going to have to study some maps - assume the spur at front was for an industry downtown?

Krug still makes furniture.... not much has changed there other than the lack of parked equipment (engines usually, and sometimes 584 parks there after arriving back from Elmira). Many of the structures nearby are converting to condos and it will continue over time..
