Comments on: VIA blue and VIA stainless steel
KRC 290 The Pukatawagan Mixed had pulled into The Pas about 20 minutes before this shot. Passengers and baggage were swiftly unloaded and the blue ex-VIA, exx-CN passenger cars were shoved into VIA storage track PZ70 to wait for the next trip north.
Meanwhile, VIA 692 The Hudson Bay with its Budd stainless steel consist idles away on Fence Track PZ89 across from the beautiful station building waiting to depart southbound in about 8 hours at 02:30.
I heard a rumour while in The Pas that KRC might be acquiring some ex-Amtrak double deck passenger equipment to replace the very aged blue passenger fleet currently in service. I’ll believe that when I see it!!

Thanks Ken! Fond memories for sure!
I too recall riding in both the grey/black CN era passenger equipment, and the VIA blue cars on CN's Super Continental in the mid to late 70's and into the 1980's on CN's Great Lakes Region. Days long behind us now but etched permanently in our minds. :-)
Only a select few of my photos will make it to the pages of RP (I'm a railroader, not a photographer). :-) You can view quite a few of my pics at

Thanks John. Yes, I was on another trip from Winnipeg to Churchill & return last week. The weather in both directions was perfect. I have a number of pics that will hopefully make it to RP.ca :-)

Thanks for this Paul, this scene sure looks different without the snow and freezing cold ! Looks like you might be on a return trip to Churchill - if so, sure look forward to more pictures and trip information. That is an interesting rumour about possible Amtrak bi-levels, will check with some of US friends who may know more information. Have an enjoyable trip, sure more comfortable temperatures, John
