THAT’S GUELPH!!??? Wow, changed so much with the Metrolinx extension of GO Transit service. Guess it really has been 20 years since my last visit, standing by an old factory to the right where the second platform is…photographing the station!

No, the reason is simple: unless there’s a derailment on the Dundas the only trains that will run through Guelph are “locals” to bring freight to the area or deliver to customers.

When there’s a derailment it may sent a few extra freights, but in the last decade it’s only happened once and it was one freight… that’s it. 20 years ago a derailment would send 20 freights down our line..

So basically it’s only the local trains. 542, 540, rarely 568 and the night train 533 from Toronto (sometimes it runs in daylight, but again, rare)

Is the lack of a second line the reason why few if any freight trains runs through Guelph?

Metrolinx announced the platform as completed but the track is not. CN held up the construction and extension of the 2′nd main track to Hanlon due to issues with the Fergus.

I believe construction to finish all that is to begin this year – the panel track was completed in 2022 and it was supposed to be built that year.

when it’s done we’ll have a new control point on the west end and finally two trains can meet in Guelph and use both platforms.

Hopefully CN doesn’t delay it any longer. It’s holding back service additions and all day service.

Just noticed a typo in my information. My fat fingers presses a second 2 in the unit number. Clearly it should be 2315, not 2215.

Great shot, Jeff. The “double track” here also only extends to just beyond the platform. Track panels are stacked throughout Guelph waiting on installation.

The platform is done but everything comes in on platform 1. Platform 2′s rails are rusty and do not look like they have been used in some time.

Very nice Jeff, looks like the 2nd platform is completed – is it in service ? Nice to see a VIA train at this location as opposed to GO. Thanks for sharing, John
