A CP SD40-2 heads up today&#8217;s train, likely replacement power for a failed VIA F-unit, followed by two VIA F9B&#8217;s. Replacement CP power often had to rescue The Canadian in the 80&#8242;s due to VIA&#8217;s aging fleet inherited from CN &amp; CP. New VIA power would start to arrive in 1986 in the form of new F40PH units from GMD.</title>
