Comments on: Wabash F7A 1161A leads two matching sisters on a freight through Chatham ON, on a sunny day back in October 1960. White flags waving in the wind (likely making this an extra), the train is heading westbound over Canadian National’s Chatham Subdivision, crossing Queen Street by the CN station as cars line up waiting for the train to pass. Part of an early 1951 order by Wabash to GMD London for 20 F7A’s, 3 SW8′s and a GP7 for their Canadian operations, interesting features on the 1161A include MARS lights in the top light assembly, silver outlined numberboard housings, the rounder passenger style pilots, and the square-topped winterization hatches found on some early GMD units. The Canadian Wabash F-unit fleet would later be renumbered into the 600-700 series, and when N&W absorbed the Wabash they became 3600-3700 series units. Leader 1161A would become WAB 670, and then N&W 3670. For more Wabash F’s: F7A’s 676 and 725 meet at Fort Erie ON in Summer 1964.

Wow, great photo. Lots of childhood memories at this location and many photos taken of the same view. It’s amazing how some places just never change. This area looks almost identical today. Heck, I even got my windows tinted for my car at that white structure, and I wouldn’t be surprised if that house in the background still had the same paint on the porch! Love this.
