Comments on: Well, here is something different. An Automated Car Inspection Portal. This curious looking box-like structure is located about a mile west of the village of Ste Anne in Manitoba. It is one of two in operation; the other being in Winnipeg. The machine is filled with LED lights and high-definition cameras that instantly capture a 360 degree view of each car as it rolls thru at track speed; around 60 MPH. Rather than manual inspection of rail cars that can take a couple of hours each by CN employees, this machine does the job in seconds, picking out any defective cars as the train passes. I think it came online about 3 years ago now give or take and I remember reading a bulletin saying it was one of several new ones Canada wide. 1.5 Million a pop, allegedly!
