Thanks for the detailed info Larry. Goes to show how much we sometimes overlook in a photo. Will look forward to more of the same in the future. I do appreciate it and now have added handrails as details to note when viewing an image.

You have caught a good moment here Joe, it would be an opt in for me.
A have a handrail thing. In this photo and other similar instances, there is a recently repainted body, yet it seems they leave the handrails untouched. Or, the white they applied just comes off real easy. On the other hand, in Edmonton and in photos posted here. A number of CN yard GP38′s have badly neglected bodies, but, the handrails are painted. It also seems they have been painted with a spray bomb, with lots of over spray. Doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason. I’m guessing they spray bomb the handrails on the old GP38′s for visibility.

Thanks Larry – I like your attention to detail. Didn’t even notice til you mentioned it. Had I noticed it back then I would have opted out on this one … or maybe not. We used to like it when at least the first few units, or all even better, rolled by with noses forward. We referred to it as elephant style.

Very nice Joe, taking good advantage of a spring day.
The paint on the 5517 is still pretty fresh looking but the front handrails are all chipped and scratched, odd.
