Comments on: Westbound on the long hill toward Copetown, CN GP38-2 #5533 leads two (unrecorded) GP40-2L widebodies and an SD40, #5038. I’ve wondered how many units did not sport the “CN” on the nose. The ‘lack of’ stands out. Photo was taken from by the old station.
CN 5533 became 4733 in 1988 and in 1990 was renumbered to 7532 for yard service.

Even though the "zebra" image was introduced in '73 (with M420 and GP38-2(W) units), it didn't really start appearing on repaints until '76, and even then CN was slow rolling out stencils to some of the smaller shops, including Fort Erie. As a result, there were a number of GP9s and a few SD40s that were repainted with zebra stripes but lacked the "noodle" on either end. For no good reason, I particularly like the no-noodle zebra variant of the Fort Erie geep.

I'm pretty sure everything in the black noodle, red cab livery had nothing on the nose. I believe it arrived with the zebra stripes.
