Comments on: What is this and where? this is the Waterloo Central Railway, operating a steam special on Remembrance day to transport Veterans to a ceremony in downtown Waterloo. One time permission was granted for this move, the train dodging oodles of crews busily finishing the right of way work on the Waterloo “ION” LRT. This track was and still is the GEXR Waterloo spur, but it’s quickly taking shape as something completely different. In the background, the ION maintenance facility, soon to be filled with more tracks and blue Bombardier Flexity trainsets, you’ll hardly recognize this place come the Spring.. it’s already quite different than what it once was.
Interestingly enough, just around the curve there was the site of the most notorious train wreck on this line on September 7 1902. (Source: Rambles of the Dutch Mail, George Roth, August 2011)

It was an interesting ride and the last one old number 9 took in daylight hours on that section (other than LRT units allowed between 1 and 5 am). The ride on the rebuilt section was smooth as silk unlike the rest of the spur on which the train swayed quite significantly. Lots of people stopped and watched the train go by, lots of waving and photos.

Drew, thanks for your comment. I suspect you are in the engine, since you've posted from it before :)

Got a few shots and I'll filter them on here as time passes. I figure there's a shot of this happening again next year... but that may be the last time.

I'm so happy some one shot this. It was pretty awesome running 9 over those new tracks. You even play 'Spot The Drew' in this photo. ;p
