Comments on: When these things were patched a year ago, Jacob and I decided to head to Hamilton to see if it was out and about – sure enough, it was, and after following them for a little bit we realized they’d run-around and shove into Railcare with this thing leading in nice light. Matthew Ettorre was also out and had the same idea, so the three of us watched them shove into the railcare yard with a cut of cars, only to slow to a crawl, and notch up into 8 under the bridge – with a sound and smoke show to match multiplied by the bridge blasting it all right back down at us – naturally we’re smiling at the smells and sounds before us, then it got better – sparks began flying as they stalled. I didn’t think sound and smoke would get any better, but it did – a feast for the eyes. The crew didn’t take long to realize what happened and were able to recover and shove into the yard without much issue. I know the Hamilton crews watch this site – I hope they see this :)

A footnote is I’m told this unit was painted recently – why is CN in such a hurry to paint the BNSF four axle locomotives they purchased but seemingly nothing else in the series? Any ideas? Seems strange.. if you know of any other repaints or have any other ideas please comment below.

Cue a strange disheveled man with white hair in a lab coat running out from behind a pillar and grabbing Steve, shouting "Marty, you've got to come back with me!!! Quick, climb aboard this GP38!"

Nice catch. 2968 and 2090 are the only two around in full BNSF paint.

Very cool shot with the sparks flying! Of all the GP38s they purchased used, they are probably the ones i was hoping the least to get repainted, the green and orange paint scheme BNSF used until the mid-2000s was quite sharp. I wish i had the chance to see one before...

Likely BNSF had an agreement in the purchase to repaint as soon as possible. They did the same things with the ex BNSF Dash 8's years ago but the UP ones roamed around alot longer.
