<title>Comments on: When VIA rationalized the transcontinental train services taken over from CN and CP in 1979, a barebones &#8220;remote service&#8221; train was established over CN&#8217;s main line between Capreol and Winnipeg. This little two or three car train shuttled back and forth three times per week until the &#8220;Canadian&#8221; was permanently rerouted over CN lines in January 1990. (It&#8217;s interesting how this was an &#8220;essential service&#8221; until this year when the now twice-weekly &#8220;Canadian&#8221; was suspended due to COVID&#8230;as this is written, Nos. 1 and 2 operate once per week west of Winnipeg but there is no service across isolated northern Ontario!)</title>
