Comments on: While crossing the diamond sometime Friday, the engine made it by fine, but the car it was hauling..did not. The city then blocked off the road until Saturday morning, when this was taken. It was still sitting here, and almost looks like one of the construction signs are tucked under the car. I have no clue when it was removed. Trillium 1859 is parked at one of the industries down the line. They must have had a long train going, because they even had box cars parked along the abandon section of Grantham Spur.

I have seen an overloaded scrap gondola derail going over a switch because the truck wouldn't pivot on the kingpin as it should, remaining 'rigid'. Presumably the same might happen over a diamond where the casting is similar to a switch frog.

Off to the left of the photo were 3 dimensional loads, so if this was a problem, I'd hate to see what would happen then. I think the trackage was just messed up.

Was the car loaded too heavy and unable to get through the tight clearances? It looks like an awful big load to me. The fine "art" of loading railcars properly is likely being forgotten.

Checking this incident at 1100 today Monday I see a big hook (Amherst) had been brought in and the railcar probably has been lifted back onto the track by now (1200) as TRRY 1859 waits. I grabbed a couple of photos but it isn't what one would call "exciting". :o)

I noticed they had made some effort to re-rail the truck at the diamond, but to no avail.

Oh they left it there alright. Maybe they ran out of time so service the places and had to leave it. Either way, it's strange..

What exactly happened to the car? I hope they didn't leave it there because they ran over a construction sign...
