Comments on: While puttering around for the day my dad and I heard on the scanner GEXR 431 calling GEXR 2211 in Kitchener for a clearance through town. We learned that they were about a half an hour outside of Kitchener and fortunately, so were we. We also heard some track guys in Kitchener who were doing so track welding, I’m guessing for the major upgrades which include welded rail and CTC signals, associated with trying to improve Via/GO service along the Toronto-London corridor (although GO now only goes as far outside of Toronto as Kitchener). To improve the situation we learned that 431 would be setting off in the yard, which made the above location ideal for watching him set off. It was nice to see GEXR 3030 back in service after being in the intensive care unit for a broken crank shaft and also newly renumbered GEXR 3394.

Geezzzz! I’m around that unit everyday and never even noticed the new number lights! Yes, agreed much better then the other ones!

3030 has been back in service for a while, it returned in November from more then just a crank case.
