Comments on: With the subdivision’s namesake town – White Fox – in the background, Torch River Rail’s only unit, 1432, heads southbound on their way to Nipawin to set off 25 grain loads for CP. I had previously posted a shot from this chase of the train passing over the iconic bridge in Nipawin, which was quite the thrill to see.

Thanks Matt. With tanks in storage in town I couldn't do much there in terms of a shot so waited here instead.

At first glance I thought the roof mounted appliance might be a spot light of some sort. Upon closer examination, my guess would be it is some type of PDD (Proximity Detection Device) to warn of other equipment on the track (MoW equipment, hi-rail vehicles, other locomotives, etc.). Or, it may be their radio/communication antenna.

This shot its quite significant, because you managed to shoot the only location in Saskatchewan with any amount of weeds along the tracks!!!...

Jokes aside, thats a very cool shot James! Rare catch indeed.

Thank you!

I've been wondering about that thing myself ever since I stumbled upon them in Choiceland. Hopefully someone can fill us in as I've got no idea personally.

Another sweet GMD-1 photo James. You could easily call this a 90's photo with the elevator in the background to go along with the 1432. I totally missed the contraption on the roof of the 1432 in your 1st photo. Do you or anyone else know what it is for? It sort of looks like a directional antenna.
