Comments on: With this year’s Holiday Train season rapidly approaching I thought it an appropriate time to share a few shots from the past couple of years, as it appears I probably will not be venturing out to take any this year. This first shot shows the 2013 CP Canadian Holiday Train creeping over the Seguin River in Parry Sound minutes before stopping for its performance at the station.

Pardon me, it seems I screwed up my submission of the 2014 shot as it's not showing on the page. I will resubmit shortly.

Thanks gents! A.W. yes it was a tad on the chilly side. Even the dog wanted nothing to do with it while we were waiting for the train to come, and made me put her back in the car with the heat on! Steve, you had me worried for a bit that I'd already submitted this one here by saying you've always liked it. Had to check through again just to make sure I hadn't. There was enough light here to capture a sharp image with the camera set at 1/640th f4 ISO 400 with a =.7 exposure bias. If you look at my 2014 shot you can see just a hint of motion blur, but I shot while the train was still in the process of slowing down. I also shot after the train had fully slowed, but it was no longer in position for a nice composition in relation to the boat. I have never shot from the bridge in Cambridge but I had always suspected they just crept over that one also as I've never seen a totally sharp shot of the Holiday Train there yet, although the reflections are so much nicer there due to the lower angle that it doesn't really detract from any of them.

I've always liked this photo. They never stopped though? just crawled over? That would be disastrous if one wants to get the detail right..

CP stopped at Galt Bridge last year, mind you it wasn't exactly dark at that time...
