Comments on: Years ago there actually was some use for a diminutive CP rail yard at Parry Sound. Here we see southbound CP 4743 and 4719 by the station as they were in the process of dropping off a few tanks on the siding and picking up some traffic in the small yard which behind the tanks and a mound of granite rock. Today pretty much all of that is gone, and the station, now used by a commercial outfit, just sees northbound run-thru freights.

Also – check out that tank car on the right. It’s a modern enough design that it lacks a center sill, but it has two compartments – a rare thing now – and plain bearing trucks! So much of the 70s and 80s in railroading has this fascinating mix of “old” and modern.

That station was the best place to hang out at of any I have been to in Canada. Cannot say enough about them. It was a real shame when the station closed down.
