Not long before what I consider "The Great Liberal Dismantling" of Ontario manufacturing, there were industrial switchers operating in oh so many companies in the province. At least a half dozen just in Welland. An example is this former Page Hersey #7 (Stelco)unit working at what was at the time Welland Pipe Co. This business folded in 2003 and became Universal Resource Recovery in 2006. There is still trackage there operated under Martech Rail Services; I have noticed a lot of railcars on the property. Connection from this plant on Rusholme Rd to CN was made over at CN Southern Yard, about a mile east on the Stamford Sub.

  1. I caught this train a couple years ago by accident and didn’t know it existed until it went through the crossing. If it’s the same engine, it’s now renumbered to 615.
