Photographed from Kay Drage park in Hamilton, CEFX 119 leads train 246, Sudbury to Buffalo, NY. For some reason 246 was stuck on the hill downgrade at Hamilton and I managed to catch up to it on the way to a family gathering, I certainly had no plans to get this, but when opportunity knocks..

With 246 pinging and ponging back and forth, 119 has been in captive service - this unit is apparently leased to CSX right now. 119 led 247 north today and should return on Wednesday morning if all goes to plan. Shoot it while you can! Since this is a SD90 formerly used in CP service (remember when they were red?) these qualify to lead in Canada, as opposed to most foreign units.

  1. I just noticed this is my photo #500 on rp.ca!

  2. Great photo Steve.

  3. Very nice Mr. Host. I need to be better connected!

  4. Info was from Foreign Power yahoo group, sighting was posted as it left Lambton. For those unfamiliar, subscribe here:

  5. Great shot….one of these days I will make it over to this park and shoot some (hopeful) CP action from this vantage point. Your shot is perfect with the fall colors still hanging around…congrats for your 500th!

  6. Very nice, Stephen. That fresh blue looks good. Well done.

  7. Impressive indeed. I caught this too at Smithville, but the sunlight played havoc with me. This location is really nice; you sure did a great job on this. My next offering will be #500 as well, Steve. Seems a distant memory since I first got talked into posting a couple of photos some years back. (Dave Young’s fault)

  8. Very cool shot. I wouldn’t call them red before though, definitely maroon.

  9. You’re right, Mr. Berry. And I wouldn’t call it #119 either. :o )

  10. Thanks gang. There were a few of us standing here waiting, there aren’t many photo locations at this time of day on the Hamilton sub and this is one of them. Problem is the only train that usually shows up in the afternoon is 254 (which was just behind this guy with a whopping 8 cars)

  11. same combo went north as 247 monday afternoon…CEFX leading….no pusher was required

  12. Beautiful image! Congratulations on #500, Stephen! Your photography, hard work and dedication is appreciated, Sir!

  13. Nice one Steve. I got a few shots on here of the maroon CEFX SD90s:

  14. Rather shoddy of me to forget to congratulate you too on your 500th posted image. They keep on getting better. As far as Mr. Berry goes, well he is past 800, going at such a clip I didn’t even recall his #500. Oh well, we’ll bag him when he gets to 1,000 :o )

  15. Thanks again gents. We have a great community here and you make it worthwhile :)

(Hint hint to any other sideline photographers reading this – join us! we’d love to have ya!)

  16. This guy is on 235/234 – heads up Earl and the Windsor boys. Should be arriving later this afternoon in the lead (today 11/7)

  17. Apparently some of these are being repainted into NS – did NS buy them?

  18. This is one of my favourite shots. It didn’t last long in this paint as CIT. It became NS 7331 SD70ACU.

7331 was traded by NS to Progress Rail in January 2022. From here – still up in the air.

  19. Rub it in Steve… rub it in. :)

  20. At least we still have cp’s and some ns :)
