Just over 4 months after this picture, on October 29 1978 VIA assumed responsibility for CP’s passenger rail services. An early casualty was the Toronto section of the Canadian, CP trains 11 and 12. VIA’s 1979 timetable shows their rationalized transcontinental passenger service, with the “Canadian” trains 1 and 2 running between Montreal and Vancouver, while “Super Continental” trains 3 and 4 ran between Toronto and Vancouver.
