I've learned to appreciate the irony in the fact that the first time I’ve had a chance to be trackside in a few weeks, it happens to also be one of the coldest days of the year. But, for the most part, this didn't hinder my mission to do some railfanning.
    I started off the afternoon on the Bay St. bridge in Hamilton, where the cold basically shut down my camera, and later on ended up at Brantford waiting for the Via. While in Hamilton I heard the dispatcher talking to the Aldershot crew, telling them about the “confusion and delay” type of day he was having. It started off with, “422 broke a knuckle 16 cars from the rear of a 10,000’ train”. I saw 422 at 3:03 pm cruising at 28 mph past Hamilton (CN Stuart), when a lot of the time he’s through Hamilton in the early morning. The dispatcher went on to say that 384 stalled going up the hill at Scotch Block, just west of Georgetown. A pair of GeePs went over to push them up the hill, when the head end proceeded to run out of gas! Last I heard a set of power was sent to the rescue.
    Anyways, back to the location at hand. While waiting for the Via (65 minutes late by the way: kudos to Via) CN 399 went by with a pair of GE’s “DPUed” in the train, which may or may not be significant, but it was cool. Then the Via came and I tried a “ghost” type of shot (don’t know what else to call it) of the head end pulling into the frame and (hopefully) stopping perfectly inside the frame (this one was close enough-well, I’ll let you be the judge of that). Stay warm out there!
