It would seem this train has quite the audience, as a flock of Canada Geese face the menacing orange beast, and a group of birds at the right are about to take flight. Fishermen are also in the water enjoying the beautiful day, and us rail-nuts were flocking to the banks of the Grand River snapping photos of this rather interesting and rare morning move. I chose this scene as I've seen it dozens of times in the last decade driving through Caledonia for Port Dover and I'd consider this a bucket list shot, a rather pretty location and a nearly perfectly matched train including the Schabel. You can count on one hand how often SOR runs through here in the morning in daylight on an annual basis, let alone a beautiful day like this. To me, you just can't beat this folks, this is my train heaven.
To facilitate this move 597 ran light power to Brantford in the afternoon on September 30 (after CN dropped the car off in the morning) and parked for the night in Brantford yard. Hydro one crews must be available to move the car and they already had a busy morning, so after rest, Hydro One crews reported for duty at Brantford for 0800 on October 1, SOR crews arrived by taxi around 0900 and the train got underway around 1000, passing Caledonia just before noon. For more on HEPX 200 see Tom Daspit's HEPX 200 page which I contributed to 15 years ago.. the site even has diagrams and other technical details.
