Caption: 13 years ago a rather interesting move occurred out of Guelph. Ontario Southland Railway sent a train early in the morning light power to arrive in North Guelph for 0600. Their task? Lift three dimensional loads out of ABB including HEPX 200 and deliver 1 mile to the GEXR interchange, where GEXR would meet OSR and continue the journey. In this scene, a few hours after interchange GEXR is heading south on the former CNR Fergus subdivision without any spacers at all - no bridges! GEXR would add spacers in Guelph Yard a mile to the south before proceeding west for Stratford. In moments, the train would stop to pass a rather precarious sideline obstruction, seen here
ABB closed in early 2006. We had it good in Guelph, HEPX 200 would come a couple times a year to bring transformers to be refurbished and take them back out. I’ve been monitoring the load on Fairlane out of Hamilton. It’s a heavy load (song in there) now bound for New Orleans via Montreal.
This photo is 13 years earlier than the recent posts. Yet the caboose appears to be the same in all the photos. Nice to see that there are still cabooses rolling up the miles in long term service.
Agreed – Babcock in Cambridge had their own rider caboose but they got rid of it. Not too many left…
