Caption: FROM AN ISLAND TO AN ISLAND. While exploring the beautiful vistas and views of PEI on a motorcycle trip from Newfoundland & Labrador with my good friend Robin, we took the time to visit the Kensington PEI Rail Depot. A highlight on that beautiful July day was photographing 1762, one of only two RSC-14 engines left in Canada (the other being at the New Brunswick Railway Museum). Originally built as RS-18 3899 by the Montreal Locomotive Works in 1960, the 1800 horsepower unit was refitted to an RSC-14, given a new number, and after working the east coast, made its last run in June 1986. Sadly, like the other Island Province, PEI abandoned its railway in December 1989, some 15 months after Newfoundland's.

Looks like a late afternoon shot. Thank goodness at least this unit was preserved. The stock at Elmira did not fare so well. I believe this is the only diesel left on the Island though.
We were on our way back to Charlottetown in the afternoon after circling the middle of the Island. Yes, its the only one left and its too bad that one of the GE 70 Tonner’s was’t preserved somewhere else on Prince Edward Island. The Kensington Station is also preserved and looks great but the lighting and angle didn’t work for a post-worthy shot.
