VIA #1 is seen approaching  Edmonton with the “Expedition Churchill “ Dining car leading the consist.  When rail service was finally restored to the town of Churchill last November the University of Manitoba partnered with VIA Rail to operate a trip, complete with an Arctic research-themed dining car to travel the rail line between Winnipeg and Churchill with the hope of raising awareness about climate change.
Expedition Churchill: A Gateway to Arctic Research is a creative public education and outreach campaign to share the world-leading Arctic climate change research done in the Churchill and Hudson Bay region by University of Manitoba scientists and collaborators.
