TTC Peter Witt streetcar 2766 is operating on a fantrip around the city today, seen here heading southbound on Weston Road at Northland Avenue after looping at Avon Loop at the north end. The sign for the art deco-ish Lyons Furniture store (now a self-storage place) is visible on the right. While most of the Witt fleet fell out of use when the University Subway line opened in February 1963, a few cars like 2766 were kept around for occasional use and fantrips. As of January 1965 there were 13 cars left on the property, but most were sold for scrap early that year. July was the final month of Peter Witt operation before the final active car, 2766, was retired (but was kept, and later overhauled and brought back in Tour Tram service in 1973).This stretch of streetcar track on Weston Road was once home to the old Weston Road streetcar service (from West Toronto to the town of Weston), but by this time the remaining section from St. Clair to Avon Loop (at Rogers Road) only saw some rush hour St. Clair streetcars. The final cars ran on February 25th 1966, the day before the new Bloor-Danforth subway opened and streetcar network revisons came into effect (St. Clair cars then ended their runs at Keele Loop, and the tracks up Weston were abandoned).John F. 1. I was informed on another page that the white Plymouth Barracuda on the left (parked at the site of the old Northland Loop) was photographer John Bromley’s.
