What an interesting contraption! Thanks. A unique piece of industrial Hamilton heritage linked to National Steel Car, Stelco and Railcare.
Pilot plow and ditch lights, it’s ready for a road trip.
Journal boxes still on the trucks too. Looks like it may have an automatic pin lifter. Can anyone confirm?
What model is this unit?
I think the white hose coming into the pin lifter mechanism is a good indication, may be for something else though.
They even painted the hood louvers and drop equalizers on the trucks a different colour. Nice.

Formely #6336 built 1918 nee Hydro Electric Power Commission loco used in constructing the welland canal 1926 then to Stelco as electric 21. It was chopped and kitbashed into this monstrosity by Stelco. It was Stelco orange until it ended up here repainted all black.
It was renumbered into Railcareand G&W 759 after GW bought railcare.
If anything nothing above the frame is original on it.

I found them in November 2023 meeting CNR 0700 as they set off cars right here. Still working away. The crews aren’t used to photographers either
You may be able to catch a glimpse of this thing behind a chain link fence at “citykidz” on burlington st – a public and safe and driveable location but only if there aren’t any rail cars in the way as it’s a bit of a rail yard back there. Can even see their GE 45/50T unit (http://www.railpictures.ca/?attachment_id=20040) if there are no cars in the way as it’s parked dead a few tracks back.
Last couple years I haven’t been able to see much on my visits and I do check due to the rail cars blocking the way.
Citykidz is a public organization and their parking lot is absolutely OK to go into but it’s port of hamilton property and they do enforce at times. But if you just go for a look there’s no harm – lots of vehicles go in there due to the current tenant and it’s wide open for visitors.
I should add the TSG says the unit was initially built in 1918 by National Steel Car – would have been a steeple cab originally. If only it still had the look it wouldn’t have been as obscure as it is today.
