The late Del Rosamond photographed the final days of steam as well as the introduction of diesels in Ontario. GP9 #4565 is shown in front of the burnt out three-stall engine shed in Pembroke, circa 1959. My internet research shows this locomotive was built in November 1957, serial number A1301. It was rebuilt as EMD GP9RM, #7231, in 1986.

  1. Quite the image. It is great that such railroad history was recorded in Pembroke. I get to thinking that particular unit lived out its GP9 days down in Fort Erie. There was a gaggle of GPs stationed there in the 1980s.

  2. For me, the emblem on the nose with the red maple leaf and gold Canadian National Railways cannot be topped. :-)
