Wow, what an awesome photo! Its wonderful to see the rail action around Toronto captured on film. I was not even born yet. Amazing to see all the changes since then.

Having been around Bathurst St bridge, Spadina Bridge & Danforth Station (all accessible by TTC or bicycle to a wayward, curious, wandering early teens rail enthusiast) in the mid 1950’s, my guess is the “4100” will wait for the eastbound diesel freight at Cherry Street, then tie on the front end and help lift the eastbound up Danforth Hill. The CN dispatcher would want the diesel hauled freight to get out of the way, off the main line and on to the High Line. Great picture in colour no less, great memory. Thanks for sharing.
