A rather interesting late day silhouette of the first TH&B routed Nanticoke steel train as it crosses Concession 8 Townsend on its way down the west leg of the wye in order to access and cross the old CASO (out of sight on the left). It was right on the verge of sundown when the train finally showed, and this vantage point off Black Bridge gave a good panoramic of just how much water makes up the 'Waterford Ponds'. B&O 3815, C&O 3885 and 4828 makes up the trains' power. These units were leased by TH&B parent CP in order to ease the demands of a very limited TH&B roster. Later, this former LE&N bridge was redecked and the out of service order lifted.

  1. It’s quite the place there. I walked that bridge years ago before all rails were lifted, very scary, LoL. Such a shame no trains pass through this great scenery anymore.

  2. Haha yeah a fun walk eh Marcus? We spent a lot of time on that bridge back in high school. Rails were gone by then but had none of its more recent trail upgrades. Less fun now that it’s all safe and whatnot.

Great shot Arnold. Love Waterford content.

  3. Check the latest TH&B newsletter. A good article about the Steel train. It will continue in the newsletter

  4. So I heard. Will be looking for it when I get a chance to visit the right stores once again.

  5. This is wonderful ! Can’t imagine this scene was captured very often. The school bus waiting at the crossing is a nice addition.

  6. It was a probably overlooked scene because the train was always late day and the sun angle would cause most to not bother with this. I loved this view, and I am glad you share the same feeling. Thank you.
