Comments on: Hidden in plain sight – here’s one for the Station guys,a photo that took some planning and time to execute. When I Saw Arnold Mooney’s photo of Waterdown North in 1980 I looked on the map and saw a structure close to the tracks.. could it be? Yes… it is! Waterdown North still stands to this day, used as offices for Compass Minerals. You can’t see it from the road, it’s blocked entirely by trees. And sun angles require a Northbound at the right time of day.For more info on Waterdown North, visit the Old Time Trains entry http://www.trainweb.org/oldtimetrains/CPR_London/stns/waterdown.htm. This is the only station from the Southern Ontario Pacific extension of the CPR Hamilton to Guelph Jct line remaining of course, and one of Four stations remaining on the Hamilton sub. (which are Waterdown North (CP), Hamilton Hunter St (TH&b), Smithville (TH&B), Welland (PC/CR/TH&B) – Honourable Mention is Aberdeen which was once part of the TH&B Welland sub.)

Fence wasn't there last time I was up in there either which I'm thinking was about 10 years ago. Too bad they decided to fence it in but as has been said it's good the station still stands. For how long though who knows - first leak in the roof or crack in the foundation and they'll probably want to tear it down in favor of a metal pre-fab structure.

Mr. Host - I have photos of the station from the timeline you have suggested...but like you, none of them are really great to post on rp.ca. You used to be able to drive right on in...no one asked questions on my only visit there around 2003-2004. Nowadays, different story.

I am surprised you didn't attempt to Time Machine Arnold's photo...but still, great photo with the use of the ties. Definitely a vantage point for sure! ;)

Thanks gents. Marcus, I was there in 2003 when the old road hugged the rail line and i'm sure there was no fence at the time... I even recall the building being brown/white but didn't think the building was a station at the time - figured just another crummy office :) Any photos I have aren't any good though from that timeframe.

A few years later they put in the new access road and fenced it all in. It's all a matter of perspective and knowledge of course, once you learn what's what..

This is a nice spot to shoot trains from either side of the facility.

Nice shot Steve, I haven't shot there in years and back then the fence wasn't there. Glad to see the station still survives.

Medical appointment, and with March Break I had the kids too. We were on our way home and the train was just.. conveniently coming the same direction. So I took it.
