My how times change--study this classic St. Thomas photo, take after the arrival of a UCRS excursion from Toronto (via Hamilton and Jarvis). Note the crowds around the "glamour girl", 4-8-4/Northern 6167...the station building in the background...the L&PS crossing/interlocking just beyond...the shop buildings on the north side of the yard and freight shed on the south...the FIVE Wabash cabooses plus another THREE CN vans. In the early 1960s,the Wabash ran three freights per day east and west of St. Thomas in each direction and CN originated a daily way freight. Hard to believe that this is all gone.

    This is just awesome! Note the number plate on 6167. Unlike other CNR plates it is flat. No raised lettering or numbering. This was the “excursion plate”, created about 1960 after the original had be stolen at Spadina. The numbers and letters were painted on.

    This plate was welded onto the locomotive as it was not possible to drill through the plate for bolts, why?…the metal was a piece of armour off a WWII tank. Small divers are visible from drilling attempts though. This plate is now preserved in the collection of the Guelph Historical Railway Association.
