A great photo. Looks like sticks of rail has been set out to the south side of the first yard track, the dark brown spots is where the rail was seated on the tie or tie plate.

Known locally back then as the “West Way Freight” trains M217/M218, subsequently renumbered to 267/266 were discontinued sometime in 1970/1971.

Was this one of the mixed trains up north on CN/VIA that lasted well into the 80′s ?

This photo brings back so many memories for me as I rode this train many times between Capreol and Laforest where our camp was located. I believe I rode train 218 the day following this picture from Laforest back to Capreol. I was able to ride the engine from Laforest to Milnet as my uncle was the engineer. The train did set offs and lifts at Laforest, Raphoe and Milnet. I remember we had an RS-18 numbered in the 3730 series. Thanks for posting this wonder photo!!

Later on in my brakeman days, I had only one trip on this train which by then was renumbered 266/267.
